Head of the class: Eight Bulldogs selected to THSCA Academic All-State Team

Eight members of the La Porte High School varsity football team have been named to the 2025-26 Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.
The honor is bestowed upon student-athletes who exhibit good citizenship and excel in the classroom.
La Porte High School THSCA Honorees
Raymond Gibbs- 1st Team
Braylen McCray- 2nd Team
Blake Stout- 2nd Team
Ashton Ruffin- Honorable Mention
Jake Hayman- Honorable Mention
Joziah Rocha- Honorable Mention
Ricardo Rodriguez- Honorable Mention
Aiden Kelley- Honorable Mention
The THSCA and Walmart, in selecting the team, take into consideration overall GPA, class rank, and SAT/ACT scores, according to Head Football Coach Kevin Berneathy.
“Before a student-athlete ever steps onto the football field, their academics come first,” Berneathy said. “This year’s honorees have excelled in the classroom, and we are extremely proud of their achievements.”
To be nominated for Academic All-State, a student must be:
- an athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team;
- of good moral character;
- a senior; and
- must have an overall grade point average of 92 or above (including courses from grades 9-11 and courses completed from grade 12).
