2022 graduate Nick Canales helps guide Central Oklahoma to MIAA Golf Championship

La Porte High School graduate Nicholas Canales continues to shine on the collegiate golf scene, adding more accolades to an already impressive season.
Canales just earned First Team All-Conference honors, capping off a week in which he helped lead the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) championship—their first conference title since 2017. The team was also named Conference Team of the Year following the victory on Wednesday.
Individually, Canales tied for 13th in a field of more than 60 golfers, finishing one-over-par across three rounds. After a two-over performance in the second round, he bounced back with an impressive two-under in the final round.
A 2022 graduate of La Porte High School, Canales was a standout prep golfer, earning All-District, All-Region, and All-State honors, along with a bronze medal at the UIL State Golf Championships. His success has carried into the collegiate level—he was named an All-American in 2024 and is currently ranked 32nd nationally.
Next up for Canales and the Bronchos is the regional championship, scheduled for May 8th–10th. To advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship in Florida (May 19–23), the team must finish in the top two at regionals.
