Announcing the 2025 La Porte High School Val and Sal

Liz Olivera and Moaz Chatta have been named the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the La Porte High School Class of 2025. As the top graduates of their class, both have demonstrated exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and dedication throughout their time at La Porte High School.
Liz Olivera
Olivera is the daughter of Lisdany Fonseca and Hector Olivera; Chatta is the son of Nazia Firdous and Khalid Chatta. She previously attended La Porte Junior High School.
At La Porte High School, she has held officer positions in various organizations, including Interact Club, National Honor Society, HABLA and Student Council. She has additionally served the community through organizations like the La Porte Youth Advisory Council, the La Porte Public Library Teen Advisory Board, and the Book Buddies program.
“Through these experiences, I’ve accumulated over 700 volunteer hours,” Olivera said. “Apart from my service, I have also been blessed to receive both AP Scholar with Honors and AP Scholar with Distinction, as well as making the San Jacinto College Dean’s List.”
Moaz Chatta
Chatta is the son of Nazia Firdous and Khalid Chatta. He attended Heritage Elementary School, James H. Baker Sixth and Lomax Jr. High School. He is a member of the Interact Club and National Honor Society.
“I am an AP Scholar with Honor and I have won multiple medals in Academic Decathlon such as second place in literature and top honors score on the team.”
Olivera and Chatta both intend to major in biology to eventually enter medical school to become a doctor. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin; He is planning to enroll at Rice University.
