Mighty Bulldog Marching Band qualifies for State for second straight year

The La Porte High School Mighty Bulldog Marching Band and Color Guard have qualified for the UIL State Marching Band Championships for the second consecutive year, earning runner-up honors at the Area competition on Saturday. This marks the program’s third trip to State in 36 years.
Qualifying for State requires the band to earn a Division I rating at Region and finish among the top six bands at Area contests. Hundreds of bands begin at the Region level, with only 38 advancing to Area. From there, just six bands per Area earn a place at the State Championships.
The UIL State Marching Contest is set to begin on Nov. 2 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The band is directed by Jason Harvey, with assistant directors Mark Fennell and Wilmaure Mejos.
