Academic Decathlon Team Shines at State Championships, Earns Multiple Medals

La Porte High School’s Academic Decathlon team has once again earned its spot among the best in Texas.
In its third appearance at the State Championships in four years, the team brought home six medals from the Feb. 28-March 2 competition in Frisco.
The team advanced to State after winning 20 medals at the Jan. 25 Regional competition.
The Academic Decathlon is a team competition that challenges students to work together in teams to demonstrate their academic skills. The competition includes a series of events, such as tests, speeches, and interviews.

"Having watched our Academic Decathlon team grow and excel over the years, I am incredibly proud of their dedication and hard work,” said La Porte High School Principal Dr. Kade Griffin. “Establishing ourselves as one of the state's best is a remarkable achievement, and it reflects the commitment, teamwork, and academic excellence our students demonstrate. This success is a testament to their passion for learning and the support they receive from our teachers and staff.”
La Porte High School social studies teacher Jaime Licon is the Academic Decathlon Coach; he is assisted by Ethan Fernau, who also a social studies teacher on the campus.
