Rizzuto Fifth Grader Triumphs in District Spelling Bee with 'Anthropology' Victory

In a crowded auditorium filled with anticipation, the tension was palpable as 30 of the district’s brightest spellers faced off. Among them was Sarah Williams, a determined fifth grader from Leo A. Rizzuto Elementary School, who ultimately claimed victory with a single word: "anthropology."
The district Spelling Bee, which featured contestants from 10 different campuses, was a thrilling showcase of young talent. As the competition progressed, the field of spellers grew smaller, until only Williams remained.
Zael Teniola and Abigail Nobles earned the runner-up and third place spot, respectively. Teniola attends Lomax Elementary; Nobles is a student at Lomax Junior High.
With her win, Williams advances to the 2025 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held at Houston Community College on Feb. 22.
