Breakfasts and Lunches are Free for All LPISD Students This School Year!

This school year, breakfasts and lunches for all enrolled students will be provided at no cost. There will no longer be any meal applications nor any other steps a family must take to qualify; these meals are available to every student automatically. This will reduce the burden on families and help ensure that every La Porte ISD student has access to the healthy, delicious meals.

  • La Porte ISD has enrolled in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision, which is a non-pricing option that allows qualifying districts to serve meals at no cost to students. This program also eliminates the need for meal applications.

  • Absolutely!

Free breakfasts and lunches may still be helpful though. La Porte ISD utilizes the “offer versus serve” model, meaning that K-12 students don’t have to take every item available at each meal period. They can pick and choose among the items available and add milk, fruit, vegetables, and more to any meal brought from home. Each cafeteria has information for students on how to build a complete meal by choosing among the day’s offerings. Please call us at (281) 604-6950 if you have questions about how free breakfasts and lunches may benefit students who bring food from home.

  • Parents and guardians may still request a letter stating that their child receives meal benefits, just like they could in the past. This letter is available for any enrolled student. If you need a letter, please email the information below to SchoolNutrition@lpisd.org or call (281) 604-6950 and we’ll be happy to help. We will email the letter or you may pick it up from 2015 Sens Road. We look forward to helping you.

    Please provide:

    Your name

Your students’ name(s) and ID numbers

    Your mailing address

  • For a meal to be complete, and therefore free, it must meet USDA requirements regarding how many items are taken as well as each tray including a fruit or vegetable. Your campus cafe workers are trained to help and support students in creating complete and healthy meals. Meals that do not meet federal requirements, such as “just an entree” or “milk only” must be charged as a la carte.

  • One complete breakfast and lunch are free every school day. These meals do not require any funds in the student’s account or a MySchoolBucks account. However, healthy a la carte options are still available for purchase at every campus. Students may continue to purchase extra tray items and other a la carte options using cash or their meal account.

About Us

  • We will ensure La Porte ISD remains a district of destination by maximizing student access to healthy and delicious meals. Through a consistent and disciplined commitment to customer-centered innovation, data-driven decision making, transparent leadership, investment in our team members, and the fiscal management required to be self-funded, we will remain positioned to fully support the students and stakeholders of La Porte ISD.

  • We are always eager to hear what our students, parents, and community have to say about our meals and service.  Although we strive constantly to improve both, we can't do it without your input.  Please feel free to call us at (281) 604-6950 or email comments to SchoolNutrition@lpisd.org.  We will respond to each and every message we receive.  We take pride in serving the students of La Porte ISD and together, we can make school meals a part of why it's always a great day to be a Bulldog!

  • We look forward to continuing our award-winning local foods program this school year. One of our primary goals is to serve locally-sourced fresh fruit each Friday. These choices will vary with the growing season.

Students at La Porte High School have access to a loaded salad bar. This salad bar features locally-grown hydroponic lettuce each and every day. We’re looking to expand the variety of Texas vegetables available there.

The entire month of October, we feature locally-sourced foods from every food group across every lunch menu. We shine a spotlight on the awesome local farmers who make our meals possible. Keep an eye on our October menus to see the great things that are happening in LPISD school nutrition.

    Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

The La Porte Independent School District has announced that it will operate the Community Eligibility
Provision (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2024-
2025 school year. All La Porte Independent School District campuses will participate. Schools
operating CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of
meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals. This approach reduces burdens for
families and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.

  • Per the 2023-2024 Student Handbook:

"In an effort to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, parents/guardians will not be allowed to deliver any outside food during the instructional day, to include lunches or snacks. Drinks will be allowed in the student’s lunch kit, to be consumed during the lunch period.

Water fountains are located throughout each campus. For this reason, personal clear water bottles or containers with lids will be permitted.

In the event that the student has left his/her lunch at home, sack lunches and lunch kits may be delivered by 9:00 a.m. to the front office."

For any information regarding this policy, please contact the front office of the campus your student attends.
