City of La Porte Announces Formation of Youth Advisory Council
The City of La Porte is excited to announce the establishment of its inaugural Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering the youth of our community. In partnership with the La Porte Independent School District (LPISD), we have brought together nine exceptional students to serve as the founding members of this group, marking a significant milestone in our City’s commitment to involving young voices in local governance and community development.
The Youth Advisory Council represents a collaborative effort between the City of La Porte and the LPISD, reflecting a shared vision to engage our younger generation in meaningful ways. This partnership has allowed us to select a diverse and talented group of students who are poised to make a substantial impact on our community.
The YAC’s primary objective is to provide valuable guidance and assistance to the City of La Porte’s governing bodies and staff. By integrating the perspectives of our youth into municipal decision-making processes, we aim to ensure that our policies and initiatives are inclusive and relevant to the needs of younger residents. The YAC will serve as a bridge between the City’s leadership and its youth, facilitating open dialogue and fostering mutual understanding.
The YAC members will engage in various projects and community initiatives specifically designed to address the interests and concerns of La Porte’s youth community. These initiatives may include organizing events, spearheading community service projects, and developing programs that cater to the unique needs of young people in our city. By taking an active role in these activities, the YAC members will gain valuable experience and leadership skills while contributing to the betterment of the community.
Mayor Helton expressed enthusiasm about the formation of the YAC, saying, “We are thrilled to launch the YAC with such a capable group of students. This council represents a significant step forward in ensuring that the voices of our youth are heard and valued in the decision-making processes of our city. We look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make on our community.”
LPISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson, echoed this sentiment, adding, “I believe that our community and city government are strong and vibrant, and a collaborative leadership serves as the foundation. Our students’ participation on the City’s YAC gives them a chance to participate in the civic engagement process and gives them a forum to have their voices heard by our elected officials. I applaud the City for providing our students with this unique opportunity, and we look forward to reaping the benefits of their leadership in our community.”
The establishment of the YAC is also a testament to the strong partnership between the City of La Porte and the LPISD. This collaboration underscores our collective commitment to fostering a supportive environment for young people to thrive and become actively engaged citizens. The district’s support has been instrumental in bringing together these outstanding students and providing them with the resources and opportunities needed to succeed.
